One of the many beleaguered accountants across the Distant Reaches who told you well and good the deadline was fast approaching. Art by Robert Frankel.

Dear Readers,

It’s Tax Day in the Distant Reaches!

From the Great Western Sand Wastes to the Eastern Plains, from the Cape of False Promise to the Booley Swamps, from Pauper’s Notch to the highly affluent Orbit neighborhoods in Amalcross, denizens the land over* are racing to have their taxes filed on time.

In the meantime, peruse our recently published work or explore our fiction archives. We’ll be back once we’ve submitted our paperwork to the Imperial tax collectors.

Cheers,
Robert

P.S. Don’t miss us this Saturday, April 22, when we’ll be at the Brooklyn Indie Comics Showcase hosted by St. Marks Comics in Industry City, Brooklyn! We’re selling (and signing) zines we’ve assembled for several of our favorite stories.

*Some exemptions apply:
Rilk’gar are exempted from all tax laws to protect Imperial tax collectors from being eaten.
The Frozen Flames are in fact subject to Imperial taxes and will be required to pay all previous years’ taxes plus a forgiving 1.2% interest upon their inevitable and glorious subjugation to the Amal Empire.
Salavasters are exempted from all taxes UNLESS they: A) maintain residence in Amalcross for more than ninety-nine (99) days per calendar year; B) maintain a stall in the Spice Bazaar for more than three (3) calendar days per month OR more than thirty (30) days per calendar year; or C) report net profits and/or capital gains of more than nine-thousand-nine-hundred-ninety-nine (9,999) drams. In case of (A), Salavasters are exempted from Amalcross city taxes but not Imperial taxes; in case of (B), Salavasters are exempted from Imperial taxes but not Amalcross city taxes; in case of (C): Salavasters are exempted from i) Amalcross city taxes but not Imperial taxes if and only if a preponderance of the net sum is made outside of the Amalcross city limits, ii) Imperial taxes but not Amalcross city taxes if and only if a preponderance of the net sum is made within the Amalcross city limits, or iii) both Amalcross city and Imperial taxes if and only if the entirety of the sum is made within the Salavas Economic Zone. Note that (C) does not preclude Salavasters from separate taxation relating to (A) or (B).
