Amalguard Historical Society, Section of Criminal Binding & Magics

Archivist’s note: These final pages of the Experiment Journal (#724.22.1033-b) date to 724 AE. The Amalguard would seize House Brenzado and all its assets in 730 AE. Though the identity of the author is unknown, authorities speculate it is the same individual whose skeleton was found within the basement walls.

[…]of subject 85’s promise. The Bindings seem to be holding up well so far despite signs of bodily deterioration. Placing my inscriptions on metal plates grafted to the subject’s body seems to mitigate some of the overall strain. Whereas carving the bindings straight onto the bones resulted in rapid deterioration and death of the subject as well as the contingency animals. Of course I have a nearly limitless supply of subjects but I burn through supplies quickly just to prevent the backlash of my own Bindings upon me. I’m sure Jinessa hopes some accident will befall me so she may take the culmination of my work to make her army of chimeras for House Brenzado without me as a loose end. But she forgets how tenuous a position such Houses are in. I digress.

Unlike 66-83, subject 85 also shows signs of optimal adaptation to its new physical form though its mental state seems embattled between the human mind and the more animalistic qualities now Bound to it. In a moment of lucidity, 85 used its claws and tail to bend the bars of its cage. It would have escaped if it hadn’t been distracted by slaughtering 84 — an invigorating success: My Bindings now hold its form together and improve both its strength and endurance far beyond those of a normal human. Following the burst of violence, however, 85 showed clear signs of deterioration. Certain human mentalities returned. I suspect the Draw from the Meridian is too much. I expect 85 to deteriorate then fully disintegrate like the rest of them with time, but now I know to return to the configurations of my Draws for further experimentation.

85’s physical form deteriorated much quicker than I anticipated. It poses neither threat nor benefit now, so I shall put it down momentarily. Could have been caused by it drawing more power more quickly than I believed it could. Admittedly, I’ve grown fond of 85. Tricky little thing, but it’s the closest I’ve been to success, and I cannot count it as a total failure. Even now I can see it is up to something, even though in its current state it is completely harmle————_

[Archivist’s note: The text ends in a violent stroke of the pen. We are left to draw our own conclusions as to why the author ceased writing in such a way.]
