Dear Readers,
I was excited to share my latest story, “City of Glass,” with you last week for a variety of reasons. For one thing, it was incredibly fun to write. The story allowed me to explore several themes that are a consistent part of my work and the world we have built: the relationship between money and power, the way institutions and individuals relate to each other, and how these often intangible forces shape the world we live in. It was also intended to be a classic horror story for Halloween. I hope you found it chilling.
“City of Glass” also marked the ninth issue of Ballads of the Distant Reaches and was a bit of a milestone for us. We now have more than 500 free subscribers! We’re overjoyed with how quickly this project has grown and that people are reading and exploring the world we’ve built.
The New Year is also fast approaching, and, with it, the halfway mark for our first story cycle.
The period between now and July 2023 will be one of experimentation for us. We want to ensure we are publishing stories and content our audience loves. We also want to make sure our medium is serving us. In other words, we’ll be exploring new ways of using emails and web publishing — and even looking beyond forms, as well.
As we begin this new period of exploration and storytelling, we need your help. Please let us know what you like, what you love, and what you wish was a little different. We’re also going to pitch some ideas to you. Let us know what you think!
Cheers,
Benjamin Reeves
